Why we built kenari

kenari team3 min read

Building with AI is supposed to be about the idea, but the first hour goes to admin: a signup form at every provider, a foreign credit card you do not have, invoices in dollars. Then the code finally runs, and somewhere mid-work a provider goes down, hits a limit, or quietly runs out of balance.

So we built one entry point in front of all of it: one key, billed in Rupiah, with somewhere to go when a provider fails.

Your app 1 key kenari router Lowest-cost provider Fallback provider kenari pool + free models
kenari chooses the lowest-cost healthy path, then keeps fallbacks ready if that path gets blocked: another provider, our pool, and periodic free models.

One key, all models

One key reaches OpenAI, Anthropic, and the other providers from the same endpoint, using the SDK you already have. Moving over means changing a base URL and a key, not rewriting the integration.

You will not run out of paths

Routing is the part we argued about longest. The easy build is a proxy that forwards to one provider and hands back whatever comes out, errors included.

For every request kenari picks the lowest-cost provider that is healthy right now. When that path breaks, hits a limit, or gets slow, kenari moves to another provider before you notice.

If every external path is blocked, our own pool becomes the last stop, and we periodically open free models you can run without touching your balance.

A gateway that only forwards has moved your outage rather than removed it, which is why there is a fallback chain here instead of a plain proxy.

Pay with Rupiah

Top up with QRIS and pay per token in Rupiah, with no foreign card needed to send the first request. Every request lands in your history with its input tokens, output tokens, and Rupiah cost, in real time. Already have your own provider key? Register it, and those tokens bill on the provider, not on your kenari balance.

Who kenari is for

kenari is for side projects that live on evenings and weekends, small teams that need a predictable bill, students making their first API call, and agencies shipping AI features for clients.

What we want to provide

We want infrastructure to stop being something you think about: it should be on, it should have a fallback ready when a provider fails, and the cost should be readable at a glance. Everything above that line is your product, not ours.

Make your first key, point the base URL at kenari, and send one request through it. The steps are in your first request from zero.
